Registration

July 19, 2010

Dear Players and Parents:

Welcome to Redhawk Hockey 2010!  This packet provides information about the 2010-2011 Redhawk Hockey season and all forms needed for registration.

We usher in what promises to be the beginning of an exciting new era for Redhawk Hockey, as we raise our club to an unprecedented new level!  Last year we welcomed the very best coaching staff in high school hockey, and if that weren’t enough, this year we will move to our new home rink at Seven Bridges Ice Arena, complete with our own personal Varsity and JV team locker rooms!  Players will attend off-ice training at the on-site training room, and practice at a truly all inclusive hockey facility.  Back for their second full season, our coaching staff led by Jeff Nelson, our Director of Hockey and Varsity Head Coach, is coming off a strong ’09 season, finishing second in the Metro West with a record of 17-5-2.  Assisting Jeff again this year will be Mark Mullally.  Harry Kohl, our JV Head Coach, led the team to an 11-11-2 record, and a berth in the Scholastic Cup.  Mike Mullally will again be assisting Harry with the JV team.

The format for this season will be very similar to last season.  RHA will draft two teams:  Varsity Red and Junior Varsity White, both.  In addition to playing in the Metro West League, we expect both teams to play an additional 6 to 10 games against the best teams in the state.  We are planning four tournaments for each of our teams, however, this year, unlike years past; we will not be hosting which will allow us to better focus our efforts and resources.  The Varsity plans to participate in a Pre-Season Tournament TBD and the Blackhawk Charities Holiday Tournament while the JV will compete in the Pow Wow Preseason Tournament and a Holiday Tournament TBD.  Both teams will participate in the Loyola Thanksgiving Tournament.  The final tournament is yet to be determined, but will be an out of town affair for both teams.  AHAI has specified a maximum number of games (excluding playoffs) of 60 games per season.  Our tournament games, combined with Metro West games, the additional games, and State and Conference playoff games will offer our players between 50 and 60 games in the season.

RHA players will be participating in off-ice conditioning again this year and it will be held at Seven Bridges Ice Arena in their hockey focused workout facility.  Players will work out 1-2 times per week in September and once a week in October.  If Jeff feels it is beneficial for the players to continue in the program, he will extend the sessions on a month-by-month basis.  Off-ice conditioning sessions should be considered additional practice sessions, and all players are expected to attend regularly.

Below are links to the materials for this season’s registration.  A checklist is included, as there are many forms that need to be signed and returned.  For your convenience, a list of frequently asked questions is also included.  Many of your questions may also be answered by going to our website at www.redhawkhockey.com.  If you need to contact a board member, their e-mail addresses are included in this packet and are listed on the website.

Prior to tryouts, Coach Nelson will run a conditioning camp.  The camp is comprised of three sessions, and will be held August 21st, 22nd, and 24th.  This is a great way for players to get ready for tryouts.

Tryouts will be held at All Seasons Ice Arena on August 26th, 28th and 29th beginning at 7:45pm.  On Thursday, August 26th, it is mandatory that at least one parent accompany the skater to the tryout registration, as parental signatures are required.  No skater will be allowed on the ice without the required signatures, proof of 2010-11 USA Hockey insurance, and full payment of tryout fees.   Registration will begin at 6:00p.m. in the lobby at All Seasons Ice Arena.  There will be an optional, informational parent meeting upstairs at All Seasons when the tryouts start.  This meeting is designed for those that may have questions about tryouts or any questions in general regarding the RHA organization.  Thursday and Saturday tryouts are closed to spectators.  However, parents are invited to attend the two games that will be played during the Tuesday, August 29th tryout.

Parents of selected Varsity and Junior Varsity teams will be required to attend a mandatory parent’s meeting on Wednesday, September 1st at 7:00 p.m. at Seven Bridges Ice Arena

In September, RHA will hold our annual golf outing at Fox Bend Golf Course.  Please look for information on our website and sign up as soon as you can.  This is a great event for Redhawk parents to socialize, while supporting the club.  You can sign up for golf and dinner, or just dinner.

Please keep in mind that RHA is a volunteer organization.  We need every family to help out in some way.  Opportunities are many, including running the clock, keeping score at games, organizing a fundraiser, managing a team, working at the tournaments, becoming a board member, collecting gate fees at games, or any one of many other positions.  Please contact any board member to learn more about available opportunities to get involved!

On behalf of the Redhawk Hockey Association Board of Directors, we look forward to working with you to provide the best high school hockey experience possible.  If any questions arise, please do not hesitate to contact me, or any of the board members.

GO REDHAWKS!
